Membership Terms & Conditions

These terms govern membership of the Spin & Gears Cycling Club. They apply from 1 January 2026 and are in addition to our general Terms & Conditions. By joining the club you accept them.

1. Membership period

Membership runs for 12 months from the date of payment. Renewal reminders are sent by SMS or WhatsApp one month before expiry. Mid-year joiners are prorated to the nearest quarter.

Membership purchased through this website renews automatically each year on the anniversary of your first payment, using the card you signed up with. You can cancel at any time from your account page; your benefits continue to the end of the period you have already paid for.

2. Payment

Membership fees are payable by card through this website, or by M-Pesa Paybill in person (details provided on sign-up). Membership is only active, and discounts only valid, once payment is confirmed.

If a renewal payment fails we will retry it a small number of times over the following days and will tell you each time. While we are retrying, your benefits remain active. If every attempt fails, your membership is paused and member benefits are suspended until a payment succeeds.

3. Membership fees

  • Individual — KSh 2,000 per year (Any solo rider)
  • Family — KSh 5,000 per year (2 adults + up to 3 children, one household)
  • Student / Youth — KSh 1,000 per year (Under 24, valid student ID)
  • Corporate — Small — KSh 15,000 per year (3–5 riders from one company)
  • Corporate — Medium — KSh 28,000 per year (6–10 riders from one company)
  • Corporate — Large — KSh 48,000 per year (11–20 riders from one company)

4. Discount caps

  • Components and accessories: discounted at the published member rate.
  • Repair and servicing: discounted at the published member rate, applied to labour charges.
  • Bike hire: discounted at the published member rate on S&G-branded hire bikes only; a standard security deposit is still required.
  • Referral discount: your member discount extends to people you refer, but the purchase must be made in the member's own name.
  • Sale, clearance and already-discounted items are excluded from all member discounts.
  • Complete bicycles are not covered by the member discount.
  • Discounts apply only to members with active, paid, non-expired status.

The current member discount percentages are shown on the Cycling Club page and applied automatically at checkout to the email address on your membership. Spin & Gears may review these percentages; any change is published on that page before it takes effect.

5. Corporate memberships

  • Small: 3–5 named riders — KSh 15,000 per year
  • Medium: 6–10 named riders — KSh 28,000 per year
  • Large: 11–20 named riders — KSh 48,000 per year
  • Beyond 20 riders: priced per additional rider or negotiated directly with the club
  • All named riders must be registered individually to access shop discounts and group rides

The paying account holder manages the named riders on a family or corporate membership from their account page, up to the rider limit of the plan. Removing a rider ends their member benefits immediately, including access to members-only events they have already booked.

6. Bike hire terms

  • The member hire discount applies only to S&G-branded hire bikes; other hire bikes are charged at standard rates.
  • A refundable security deposit is required for all hires, regardless of membership status.
  • Members may be given booking priority over walk-in hire customers ahead of major club events.
  • Hire bookings during club-organised events may be restricted due to demand — advance booking is recommended.

7. Race sponsorship

  • The club offers discounted sponsorship towards entry fees for races on the official Kenya Cycling Calendar.
  • Sponsorship slots are limited per race and allocated on a first-come, first-served basis to members with high participation in weekly Spin & Gears events.
  • Sponsored riders will be asked to wear club kit and to ride Spin & Gears branded bicycles, representing Spin & Gears Cycling Club at the event.
  • Sponsorship level and eligible races are reviewed each season and communicated via the club WhatsApp group.

8. Members-only events

Some club events are restricted to active members. Eligibility is checked when you book and again when your ticket is scanned at the event. If your membership has lapsed, been paused, or you have been removed as a named rider between booking and the event date, the ticket will not be admitted.

9. Challenge event prizes

  • Winners at club-organised challenge events receive prizes as announced ahead of each event.
  • Only members with active status are eligible for challenge event prizes.

10. General

  • Membership is non-transferable and tied to the named individual.
  • Spin & Gears Cycling Club reserves the right to review pricing, discount caps and terms annually.
  • Participation in group rides is at the member’s own risk; helmets and basic safety gear are mandatory.
  • We may end a membership, with a pro-rata refund of the unused period, where a member behaves in a way that endangers other riders or brings the club into disrepute.
